Appearance - Pours a amber with two fingers of foamy white head.

Smell - tart berries, biscuity malts, earthy and leafy hops, and straw aroma.

Taste - Starts off with the tartness from the trio of berries then goes into the biscuity malts. The earthy and leafy hops are there and the straw aroma rounds out the brew.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Finishes dry with a slight tartness.

Overall - A refreshing three berry Kölsch from Village. I can see this becoming a favourite for the patio season. While I like the brew itself, a part of me still wishes for that extra berry flavour to shine through.

330ml bottle - a Kölsch made with blueberries, blackberries, and Saskatoons.

This beer pours a clear, medium purple-tinged bronzed amber hue, with a fistful of puffy, tightly foamy, and somewhat creamy off-white head, which leaves some broken webbed lace around the glass as it evenly subsides.

It smells of mixed berry fruit salad, crisp 'n grainy pale malt, some soft bready doughiness, a further cold melon fruitiness, and plain earthy, leafy hops. The taste is bready, grainy pale malt, a still blended dark berry fruitiness, some middling earthy yeast notes, a cantaloupe/honeydew sugary sweetness, and the same leafy, weedy hop bitterness from the aroma.

The carbonation is moderate in its light and beguiling frothiness, the body a solid middleweight, and generally smooth, a tame airy creaminess arising as things warm up a tad. It finishes well off-dry, the balanced berry fruitiness lingering on into that proverbial good night.

For a fruit-forward (yeah, winespeak, I'm stealing one of your terms) brew, this is all right - the trio of berries familiar to most Albertan beer drinkers working it alongside (some might say over top of) a decent base version of the style. I can see this being a hit come withering patio temperatures (not always measured by the thermometer), hopefully soon.
