Part of the the limited release of the original stout and this one which has been aged in French oak bourbon barrels.
Appearance - Pours a rusty red with two fingers of bubbly white head.
Smell - oak, vanilla, bourbon barrel, earthy and leafy hops, bready malts, cococa, coffee bean, and earthy yeast.
Taste - oak, vanilla, bourbon barrel upfront followed by the earthy and leafy hops. The cocoa, coffee bean, bready malts come through next. The earthy yeast finishes the brew off.
Mouthfeel - Medium to full bodied with moderate carbonation. Finishes smooth with the barrel and cocoa and coffee bean lingering.
Overall - A bold and successful attempt at barrel aging this stout in french oak bourbon barrels. The bourbon barrel definitely makes its presence known while the "stout" elements are in the foreground. I prefer this version over the regular version as the bourbon barrel adds a depth and complexity of flavour. Worth buying this two pack if you are the least bit curious as to see the difference between both brews.
