Sledge Hammer is Velvet Hammer on steroids - first wort runnings from two separate Velvet Hammer mashes combined with excessive amounts of Velvet's characteristic hops to brew one big beer.

These red ales are typically not my style but I still try my best to rate them objectively from the standpoint of the type of beer.

It has an amber, red hue that light dimly shines through. The head is thick and creamy with a slight tint of brown. It has hints of almond, macadamia. The finish is good once I get past to my own personal style objections. Overall it is good and has a smooth finish.

Velvet hammer is my favorite Dallas beer, and this imperial version deserves that title. It has a very rich taste and feel. Had it on tap at the brewery in a snifter. Dark ruby red color and excellent head and lacing. Fruity, malty smell and taste. Sweet dark berries with cinnamon, vanilla, and caramel. Imperial but not very boozy. A beer that will sneak up on you!

Draft pour at the third anniversary.

Off white/lightly khaki soapy head sticks around and laces. Body is clear orange/brown/red.

First whiff was too good. Pungent floral and citrus hops with a caramel malt backbone. A little juicy.

Supremely bitter with plenty of sweet malt and a touch of alcohol on the back end. Fairly thick and slightly syrupy. Juicy grapefruit.
