Ah so I get to be the first to review this "triple/quad" ipa on BA. Joy.
Pours a light amber color. The commercial tug job references a light malt bill. Yeahok.gif. 1/3" white head. The aroma was massively caramel crystal malty. There are like 4 hop varieties, 2 weird, rarely used ones that add nothing to the familiar Centennial and Chinook pine combo. Nonetheless, those 4 hops can't get past 2nd place in the aroma department with the megamaltiness leading the charge of 1st place.
Taste, ok this isn't as terrible as it comes off on paper. Chinook and Centennial push a less than expected bitterness, maybe all that malt bill did do some positive things here in terms of taste and mouthfeel, absorbing a bit of IBU and also making 12% not the hottest thing in the world in the mouth feel in terms of feeling like its hot or fusel-y. There is a relative dearth of those allegations of citrus and pineapple flavors from the hops. Caramel wins the day all day here, but it isn't as thick and offensive as the recipe comes off on paper.
Mixed bag.
