Formerly our newest beer, De Maas balances a fruity and floral Belgian yeast character with caramel and toasty maltiness and a firm bitterness.

On tap @ Jack Astor's for a CBW tap takeover
The beer pours a clear amber with a thin, loose white head that doesn't lace. The nose is similar to a hefe, but has a touch more clove than banana, and a slightly artificial smelling peppermint aroma...that's some potent yeast for such a simple grain bill. The taste has the same potent yeast flavors with a little sweetness in the finish. This mouthfeel is quite mild-medium bodied and drinkable with only a slightly offensive flavor profile considering the banana/clove/peppermint/bubblegum from the yeast. Although this beer isn't my favorite CBW, it would pair well with a meal and likely appeal to a larger audience when compared to Frank or The Whale (which I prefer).

Pours a bright amber color with ruby edges. Off white to tan head. Aroma is quite reserved but contains notes of caramel, toasted malt, and Belgian yeast. Taste is light and refreshing and follows the nose well, with notes of caramel, very slight chocolate and maybe a tiny bit of dark fruits. Belgian yeastiness shines through well. In the end this BPA reminds me quite a bit of Ommegang Rare Vos. Enjoyable.

A: Pours a nice light brown with slight red hues. There is about one full finger of off-white head that fades quickly. There is minimal lacing as it drinks.
S: The nose is caramel, cracked wheat, and a touch of funk. It, like The Whale, it reminds me of shredded wheat. It's not the best smells of beers, it actually smells like a brewery, if that makes any sense (spent grains).
T: It starts out wet and sweet with big wheat and caramel notes. Those flavors last on the palate for a bit, before it gets a slight bit funky. I get a touch of clove, some chalk, and citrus bitterness in the back end.
M: Medium bodied beer. It's sweet and smooth, but gets kinda funky and bitter in the finish.
O: I just don't like it. It doesn't smell all that good, it doesn't taste all that good, and I just don't really want to drink it. It reminds me of soaked wheat bread, with a touch of belgian spice/clove/banana. It's just not for me.

Put fresh on tap at Blue Monk. A good sized head on a light coloured body. Kind of OK Belgian ale, not greatly drinkable or complex. "Pales" in relation to the Bellwoods pale had a day and a half prior. Above average mouthfeel, but a little rough. Might be good on cask.Yeasty aroma. Looking for something a little more interesting in the style. Still, I cannot help but try something under 5%.
