Dry and decadent, like a dark chocolate cherry cordial. This birthday beer is brewed with more than four pounds per barrel of cacao nibs.

Poured into a Westy glass a pretty nice dark brown color, pretty nice carbonation, with a pretty nice thick/creamy tan head, which also leaves a medium size oil slick, and some sticky lacing behind. The nose is malty, with some chocolate/toffee, pretty nice dark fruit complex (cherries, figs, dates, raisins, plums), vanilla, slight licorice. The taste is pretty nice, malty, nice touch of chocolate/toffee, pretty nice dark fruit complex (cherries, figs, dates, raisins, plums), vanilla, slight licorice. Full Body, ABV is hidden very nicely, with a slight dry/bitter finish, a pretty tasty complex brew. Overall, very nice, glad to see it around here.

I enjoyed this anniversary ale, though it wasn't quite perfect. Very high-alcohol beers sometimes lose a bit of their flavor because it gets drowned out by the booze, and though that didn't happen here, I only got the cacao flavor and very little cherry. It wasn't quite as dry as I expected, which was fine by me, and as a result there was no bitter aftertaste as dry stouts usually have. If they got just a bit more cherry flavor in here, I'd bump it up quite a bit. Huge head too, so maybe give it a few minutes to settle before you drink.

Ebony black body topped with a one-finger thick, light brown head. Fine aroma blend of charred grain and sweet chocolate; hint of coffee. Flavors of cocoa, baker's chocolate and a touch of cherry; mild booziness. Heavy body; full and rich with a velvety softness; mild warmth.
A very nice looking beer (always nice to see a decent, lasting head on a high ABV beer) with some excellent dark, roasted grain character enhanced with notes of cocoa and a very mild ester presence.

Thanks to Wasatch for this one. Poured into a snifter. A nice deep dark brown color with a thick tan head. The foam slowly settled leaving scant laces. The aroma was a mix of chocolate, cherries, and floral esters. There was also a hint of alcohol which wasn't boozy but dried out the nose. The taste followed the nose for the most part, with a rich chocolate aspect, cherries, anise and faint spices. The finish was dry (in the Belgian style) but worked well. Slightly boozy and warm on the finish. Overall a great and interesting beer.
