Burnt orange body, off-white head. In the taste bready yeast leads, sweet german malts and mild earthy hops support, not much else though. Smell adds a hint of honey dipped nuts. Feel is thinner for style, not that light though with a sharper yeast than expected. Missing the mark on key components of the style, especially the malt and yeast smoothness interaction, but a fine beer as is

Canned 8/15/23
I rarely ever have Maibocks as I haven’t found many that I consider better than decent, but every now and then I decide to give them a shot again. This one could be promising as I’ve heard good things about River North. Let’s crack it open and see if my annual shot at the style is worth it
Pours a cloudy deep orange with a finger of soapy off white head that slowly fades to a thin ring and leaves minimal lacing
The nose is a bit sweet but still relatively balanced. I’m picking up on aromas of bready malt, sweet honey, floral hops, toffee, orange zest, black tea, and lemon zest
Unfortunately things get even sweeter in taste, but it’s still alright. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting sweet honey, toffee, orange zest, pear skin, doughy malt, light lemon zest, and earthy wheat. The swallow brings notes of sweet honey, toasted grain, orange marmalade, pear skin, toffee, and light floral hops
A medium body pairs with gentle carbonation, resulting in a smooth beer. Finishes a tad sticky and sweet
Unsurprisingly, I didn’t get much out of this one. I’m sure many would enjoy it but it’s just too sweet for me

375ml bottle into a pint glass. 2021 release.
Looks splendid in the glass. Gleaming deep amber body. Small white head shrinks to a solid ring, a little lacing at first.
Good rich caramel malty aroma.
On tasting, sweet, malty, rich, full bodied. The abv is quite apparent. There is a faint waft of bitterness right at the end.
Mouth closer to full than medium. Finish sweet malt with a lightly bitter tail.
Overall, grabbed this one as a quencher after yardwork, not realizing the abv. Exercised some restraint and thoroughly enjoyed this high octane Maibock.
