Sampling a cellar temp 375 ml bottle. vintage 2021 and has been in my cellar since arrival in a trade last fall (2021).
Pouring the beer into my snifter, the beer pours a cola brown and no light passes through the glass when I hold it up to the light. A dense creamy beige head of .5 cm foams up and is fading slowly while I type, revealing the dark liquid just beneath the surface.
The aroma on this beer is some roasted malts, light charred wood and some black licorice or anice. I also get a bit of dark, high cacao chocolate mixing in.
First sip reveals a medium body with soft texture and smooth feel, the carbonation is fine and gentle rolling across my palate. THis beer drinks easier than anticipated for 15%! Not really sticky or syrupy but a little remains on my lips after each sip.
Flavor is roasted malt, some charred wood and black coffee mixing with a bit of anice and dark chocolate. Not really any sweeter big beer notes here. I do get some warming on the swallow and as the beer sits in my belly after each sip. But otherwise this big beer is not very boozy and I find my glass getting empty faster than it should for the ABV. No hop character that stands out anywhere.
Glad to have tried this beer and would buy another bottle for sure, or trade for one! a not sweet but big beer that is very enjoyable.

Poured from fridge temp. Pours motor oil black (although seems pretty thin). Little bit of tan head. Nose is charcoal, roasted malts, dark chocolate, blackberries, black licorice, and a bit of burnt toffee. Really nice. The taste follows the nose. Very intense black licorice, roasted malts, rich dark chocolate fudge, and some nice dark fruit. A touch of soy sauce. Mouthfeel is thick. This is extremely flavorful. Definitely a sipper. Alcohol is detectable, but not overly boozy.
