Poured at fridge temp. Pours black with minimal head. The nose is definitely dominated by notes of bourbon. Vanilla, toffee, malts, bread, and some dark fruit.
The taste is really nice. Loads of black licorice come through here. Like...a lot. Mixed in is some bourbon, toffee, dark chocolate, molasses, umami, and maybe a slight note of soy sauce. Definitely becomes more approachable as it warms.
Overall, I'm really digging this. Different for a porter, but unique in its own way. Perhaps a little thin on the body.

Clear, medium brown color pour, dark brown and nearly opaque in the glass; thick, loosely frothy khaki-hued head, long-lasting. Weak, dark grain scent; faint cacao nibs. Intriguing flavors; thin milk chocolate and raw white oak; subliminal booziness; mild grain char bitterness; dark chocolate sweetness emerges long into the finish. Medium-heavy body; smooth and silky; low-key alcohol warmth.
I expected a bit more initial oomph with a beer like this. Instead, the beer is a sleeper. It grows on you as you let it gently warm and open up. The only true weak spot is the thin, nearly non-existent nose. Everything else is generally above average as far as taste and mouthfeel.
ABV: 14%; pouring temperature: 49.4 °F: bottling info: 2025
