this one as a little overambitious i think. a big double ipa with juniper. i love the idea, but the execution leaves a little to be desired this time around. great creamy white head on the pour with fine lacing and excellent retention, it looks great. the nose is intense, tons of vegetal leafy fresh smelling hops, but plenty of woody bitterness too. the juniper has that distinct gin character, but its behind the hops, at least in the nose, slightly floral, slightly like blueberry, and some sweet honey malt. the flavor is also very intense, over the top on the hops, its almost chewy and harsh on the tongue, with the juniper being quite a bit more flavorful than it smelled like it would be, but only really serving to exacerbate the hop bitterness. this is a lot of beer in this glass, weighty and attempted to be balanced some by a bigger sweeter grain bill, but its a lost cause at this point. lasting earthy drying bitterness on the palate. i taste it with my teeth, almost gritty texturally. its a neat idea for sure, but its in need of some refinement. perhaps a single ipa would be the place to start with it. i guess it has its fans though, some of the folks at the bar were raving about it, but for me it was a bit too much.
