they call this one a braggot, a honey based beer, but built like an amber ale otherwise. its red in color, clearish, with a lot of layers in different light. at times crimson, and at times more orange. it changes as the sun is going down here. not enough beers in this style being brewed these days, and definitely not enough in this style. its awesome. huge body from both the red malt and the residual sugar, and a lot of other flavors happening too, molasses and grassy hops and the raw waxy part of the honey. tons of body, which i really like, and less sweetness than you would think for a honey based beer. im not sure it fits the braggot thing fully, but i like it a lot. carbonated pretty well and kind of heavy in the right ways. a little bit of astringency for me, which is not flattering to the style, but overall its a really impressive brew. i think these guys are well ahead of the curve, and deserve a little more credit and notoriety, but they dont get beer out of the brewery yet from what i understand, so it might take some time. love this one, really expressive and different for them. love it.
