Format: a 100mL taster from the cellar door at Garage Project during Wellington Good Beer Week.
Appearance: pours a strong ruby-brown in colour with a light cloud. A two-finger tan head slowly drops to a creamy half-finger. Looks brilliant.
Aroma: a big aroma of pine, grapefruit citrus, tropical fruits and grass hops. I'm surprised to smell grass in an IPA - but hey, it works.
Taste: a very strong palate of the characteristics on the nose, just amped up a bit. You can tell it's a 10% considering how strong the flavour and feel is.
Aftertaste: plenty of bitterness from the amalgamation of hops, but crucially the hop flavours are there too, along with the bitterness. A touch of sweet malts round it out. Fantastic.
Mouth feel: medium in body with a moderate to higher, fairly sharp carbonation per the style.
Overall: this is one of the better IPAs I have had to date. Trust Garage Project to push the envelope and amp up the flavour and the ABV. This is absolutely not a beer for craft beer newcomers, but rather for people that love their IPAs strong as. Not cheap at AU$25 for a 650mL bottle, but I would say that it may actually be worth it.
