Pours a hazy orange-brown with a foamy khaki head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, caramel, and soy sauce aromas that seem to mostly dissipate as the beer warms up. Taste is much the same with bread and slight soy sauce flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of roasty bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and somewhat medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is an average beer that isn't all that well done but definitely has an interesting historical slant.

Appearance: Light penetrable with a Ruby/brown color and a very nice frothy slightly off-white, two-finger head.
Smell: Sweeter, with both a roasted nut and buttery biscuit malt note.
Taste & Mouthfeel: Smooth and velvety with a clean buttery nut flavor upon initial tasting. Has a sweet (ie. honey) bent to it that is very inviting. Also picking up a little bit of a tea tannin flavor too. Slight "bite" at the end, with some bittering hops just in the undercurrent. The combination of both the taste & mouthfeel is great, as it just goes down too easily. It's like a sweet bit of lighter honey has been laid upon your tongue and just slips back into your throat.
Overall: As a beer that serves to honor the remembrance of those who served during the attack of Pearl Harbor, the HOTBBC did an outstanding job of creating this 70th Anniversary Dark Lager. If you should happen to find one, I suggest you buy one or two, to both share and enjoy. Nice job. Looking forward to more island offerings.
