500ml bottle, bottle conditioned. Served slightly chilled in an Urthel mug

Pours with deep reddy copper tinged body, Half inch tight off white head with little yeast patches forming. Some small bubbles of off white lacing stick to the glass

Smell, sticky slightly sweet and estery, bit of rich dried fruit, smokey musty malt. Some fresh hop character too

Taste, smooth and not overly carbonated body. Dry and chalky malt backed up with a slightly choking hop profile, not excessive but it mingles nicely with the rich malt character. Lasting hop bitterness on the finish, a few tannins lingering around the palette also including a hint of raisins and figs. Bit of boozy alcohol also

A pretty solid strong ale. Nice level of bitterness and a malty backbone provide a good mixture of flavours

500ml bottle bought from The Vineyard, Belfast...

Poured a deep coppery russet / mahogany colour. Nice creamy head poured quite thick then faded fairly quickly to light layer... very little carbonation... no lacing...

Aroma - Lots of spicy fruits (raisins, figs, prunes), quite dusty / musty, peppery, woody notes, some light vegetal notes, some winey hints, spicy hops, toasty / biscuity malts...

Taste – Quite strong peppery hop bitterness upfront - maybe a little too strong... light spicy fruits (red grapes, plums, figs), lightly toasted maltiness, dusty hints, some brown sugar sweetness, light sherry notes, light oaky hints, noticable tobacco, some alcohol coming through...

Feel - Pretty smooth and creamy... medium bodied... quite drinkable for 6%..

Overall - An OK beer.... the bitterness could maybe be balanced out with some more maltiness but it's probably worth a try...
