The beer arrived in a recent parcell from the CAMRA beer club.
The beer poured a hazy amber-gold colour with an off white head that bubbled and then reduced to a 1mm film.
The nose was initially dominated by by a sour sweet aroma that was reminiscent of malt vinegar, along with hops and wheat grass.
The taste is hoppy with a slightly bitter aftertaste, this is more like a pale Belgian beer rather than an English beer, similar to Hoegarrden beer. The mouthfeel is rather light, even for this style of beer.
This is a drinkable beer, but a bit weak bodied.

Tasted by a half-pint at a JDW pub in Andover, The John Russell Fox by non-sparkler pour.
A: slightly murky orangey-amber in colour, coming with a fluffy white head and low carbonation... looking like from the end of a cask.
S: sticky, crystal sugar and malt syrup come with sour-sweet fruits (sweet citrus + oxidised apple), while a light touch of floral hops stays in the background. Quite sour on the balance, but not quite off-ish (yet)...
T: sour-sweet malts upfront are underlined by yeasty phenols and an earthy edge (as in many Hampshire brewery's pale-r ales); orangey hop bitterness intensifies, towards a quite dry and clean palate of hops, lingering hop bitterness that is slightly chewy. Where a touch of sour nectar sustains at the back, an herbal edge lingers with it.
M&D: very smooth but also semi-flat for a cask ale, showing all signs of nearing the end of a cask; somehow the clean palate and hoppy flavour still make it a tasty brew. Addition of yeasty phenols is esp. intriguing. Gotta try it again, when much much fresher...
