a collaboration with copper kettle, who i havent heard much from lately. on tap at fire on the mountain. there is a bit too much going on with this one i reckon, a hopped up stronger wit type with strawberries and habanero, its a lot of beer to be served in a pint, and while the additives arent over the top or anything, the beer ends up sort of muddled and heavy for me, done up a bit too much, and having lost the refreshment value of a good wit, if that is what in fact is underneath all of this. cloudy and more orange than i am used to in the style. i smell some light jammy fruit and its sweetness up front, a lot with the wheat, a little heavy already, some average belgian yeast, and a faint citrus note from both hop and habenero, neat together for sure and not too spicy. the flavor isnt bad, its just heavy and oddly layered with the fruit and the pepper, a little back of throat heat but its faint. the hops are tropical which is cool with the belgian yeast, but its too sweet the the strawberries. i also get an odd spice element separate from the pepper, earthy and sort of warming, autumnal even, maybe from the yeast. overall a bit strange, undercarbonated, and messy to me. a good idea but it is in need of some refinement i think, some cleaning up...
