On-draught @ Monkish - the Belgian only brewery (or so they said).
Head does within 30 seconds. Body is orange but not real vibrant.
Aroma of muted citrus. Not promising a lot of depth or hop flavour.
Taste: A shrug of a Citra/Amarillo (I)IPA, hitting on vague citrus, pale malt, and wheat. Finishes warmly alcoholic. There's no hop pungency here at all. Not much complexity or subtlety either. It's balanced inasmuch as it's one dimensional.
Shockingly shallow.
TEXTURE: Soft, smooth, warm, wet, unrefreshing, medium-bodied. Doesn't accentuate specific flavours or elevate the beer.
OVERALL: Amarillo and Citra are two of my favourite hops... it's a shame this purported imperial IPA makes no real attempt to showcase them. $7 per 12oz is a laugh. I don't doubt Monkish is putting out the best unfiltered-hence-hazy IPAs in the L.A. area, but that says more about the decrepit state of L.A.'s brewing industry than it does about Monkish. I wouldn't want a growler of this.

Half pour at Monkish. On draft.
Pours a nice dull haze. Minimal head but some soft lace clings to the glass.
The nose is bursting with tropical fruits and just a hint of stinging hops. Mild but very smooth.
The nose is a great compliment to the flavor profile of this beer. A predominance of grassy, earthy hops with a noticeable bitterness throughout. Subtle topicality but this is hoppy for Monkish haze.
Creamy and soft, goes down nicely with a subtle burn.
