Canned 08/21/18, ‘BIRD-LYFE’.

It’s got a beautiful mango juice pour, not too much head or lace buildup, just straight juice in the glass.

Nice array of tropical fruits on the nose. Again, pure juice, and the addition of fruits like apricot and passionfruit really hide any evidence that this is a beer. The rich aromas of mango, passionfruit, pineapple, and stone fruit combine wonderfully.

I see right away in the flavors where the polarizing views on the beer were. Tart apricots bully their way to the forefront. Zesty lemon and grapefruit work alongside the apricot skin quality and remind you immediately this is a sour-style IPA. As the fruit dies down there is an emergence of hops, predominantly that potent Citra. It’s subtle, but the hints of bitter citrus, pine, and floral hops helps to take the edge off. As it warms, the Bru-1 hops really bring out a sharply spicy quality that cuts nicely through the tart, lightly acidic style. All in all, it’s a subtly complex, very unique beer, especially for Monkish.

The mouthfeel is a tad thin, a more full-bodied IPA would have been much more successful in complimenting the powerful fruit flavors and aromas. That said, it has a dryness to it and a seltzery carb that has it drinking more on the sour style side of the spectrum than the DIPA side.

Pours a opaque bright yellow with a thin wispy white head. Nose is of tart pineapple juice, guava and notes of sweet lemon. Taste is fairly refreshing. Sweet pineapple juice, passion fruit, Light guava and lemon zest dominate. Very easy drinking fruity beer with a tart kick. Medium to light body with a sour dry kick to finish.

Really tarty beer! Does have a nice passion fruit taste and smell! The down side, it has a really strong after taste in my opinion.
