Canned 09/26/18, ‘FULLPINT’.
The pour on this is a pale gold, completely opaque and with a finger of frothy white head that sits on top. It slowly sinks back into the murky gold beer, leaving only a ring of lace and foam in its wake.
The nose on this has that distinctly Nelson quality to it. It is very aromatic, very fruity. Notes of citrus rind, overripe mango, white grapes, and grassy hops all form the great overall profile for this beer.
Very different for a Monkish hazy. The unique and lesser-used Australian and New Zealand hops really give a different quality to the flavor. Grassy, pithy hops take the forefront along with sweeter notes of stone fruit and white grapes. I like how you get distinct qualities from multiple hop varieties used in this beer, from an herbal, black pepper flavor from the Jade to the pear and drier fruit flavors from the Rakau. Overall while this DIPA has a unique flavor, I’m liking it. I think the addition of citrus zest was key here in mellowing and contrasting some of the hops used that are more dry, herbal, and grassy in nature.
Dry yet juicy feel to this beer, with a low but present carbonation and a lightly sticky finish.
