Bottle at share. Black, flat pour. Aroma is roasty and boozy. Taste adds some dark chocolate, sweet vanilla, more sweetness. Pretty smooth with a fair bit of heat..

Draft. Darker cola brown body, one finger offwhite head, good retention, bit of lacing. Smell is roasted chocolate malt, a slight bit of earthy smoke, touch of tobacco, herbal and mild vanilla sweetness that remains relatively mild as it warms. The aroma is relatively restrained compared to the palate where there is a big vanilla flavour up front, washing over the palate but which quickly transitions to a relatively astringent, earthy malt with a building astringent earthy and floral hop resin, which actually becomes a bit much for me. I'd have liked a bit less of the hop bite, although I did taste an IPA before drinking this so perhaps the alcohol was activating the leftover hop flavours- so who knows? Mouthfeel is lighter medium bodied, good carbonation, again astringent, big hoppy finish kind of made it difficult for me to finish.
