From tasting notes 07/15/19
Had on-tap at Monkish Brewing in Torrance, CA
Appearance - Served up 4oz into a tulip. Black brew with a barren surface and no lacing. What you'd expect.
Smell - Formidable aroma. Butterscotch and booze, upfront. Lesser chocolate. Toffee. Vanilla. Sweet and heat, mostly.
Taste - Chocolate and a touch of roast upfront, but quickly overtaken by notes of butterscotch and toffee. Vanilla sneaks in shortly after, then notes of oak, rye spice and leather in the finish, though butterscotch stays prominent. Booziness can be found beneath the sweetness in the aftertaste.
Mouthfeel - Medium in body with low carbonation. Slick upfront before a bone dry, belly warming finish.
Overall - Ironic the name, because this BA Impy hides nothing. It is obtuse, but also shows impressive complexity. Close to giving a 4.5 in flavor, but some deeper roast to combat the sweetness would have been nice.
