Canned 8/9/19
L: hazy pulpy yellow with hues of orange. Less than a finger of head from the poor with minimal retention. A bubbly ring surrounds the perimeter of the Beverage with bar-none in terms of lacing. Color-wise, Monkish has it down.
S: very citrusy on the nose, predominately being orange and lemon. Yeast is also prevalent as is a defined earthy character. It smells rather nice, and you can definitely tell it has been dry-hopped.
T: very orange-forward from the start with a bitter grassy finish that transcends to a dank and yeasty after taste. I actually am rather fond of the hop character- dirty, earthy and gritty, most likely due to Idaho Gem hops. I am so accustomed to the glorious Galaxy & Citra combo that I am rather enjoying this unique hop variety.
F: medium in body, medium in weight but a tad higher carbonated that other monkish. I think it cuts back on the smooth character I normally admire in monkish offerings. Booze is well concealed for the majority but not entirely hidden.
O: I appreciate the unique hop combo and the different flavor it brings. That being said, I don’t think it is necessarily my favorite. The more I drink of it, the more I am able to taste and tell this is an 8.6% beer, which is something I am not typically cognizant of when drinking Monkish. Overall, I am enjoying this and I am glad to have tried. Cheers!
