Canned 8/21/19. As the description lends, this beer is DDH'ed with Galaxy, Southern Passion, and Sabro hops. I haven't had much with Sabro hops, but I can say that it is unique and not necessarily my favorite hop. Regardless, I am looking forward to trying it. Let's see how it is, shall we?
L: As usual with Monkish goods, the beer pours a hazy, cloudy vibrant yellow in color. There is zero transparency to the beer, and to my surprise, a finger or so of head was achieved from the pour. Minimal in terms of lacing, but the overall color is great. The can art as well, while being minimal, is slick and clean looking. I like it.
S: Big aromas of citrus and pineapple, with orange being the citrus fruit that is most pronounced with grapefruit backing it up. There is an underlying earthiness to the beer as well, something that I recall from the last Sabro-implemented beer that I had. The earthiness seems to keep the juice aroma in check, balancing out rather nicely.
T: Yep, Sabro is definitely there. I am a lover of Galaxy hops, and I can say that it isn't the star of the show here. Instead, the Sabro and Southern Passion seem to be the key players. The beer is citrusy initially, leaning heavily on grapefruit and orange, but finishes earthy and gritty with a grassy vegetal flavor. Aftertaste reminds me of a white wine like a chardonnay, green grapes, lemon and pineapple.
F: Medium in body, light to medium in weight. Moderate carbonation with a smooth feel with just a touch of booze. Nice feeling beer.
O: The more I drink of it, the more I like/appreciate it. The unique hop variety definitely creates a unique drinking experience. Truth be told, it is far from my favorite hop bill, but I am enjoying it nonetheless. The booze does come out more but it isn't a dealbreaker. I am very glad to try and applaud Monkish for experimenting with untraditional hops. Cheers!
