Collaboration with Other Half Brewing.

Triple IPA with Citra, Simcoe, Cashmere and Riwaka hops. Before quarantine season, plans were made to go to New Zealand for hop selection with friends and Other Half planned to stop in LA to spend time brewing some beers. But things still go on and while taking up new hobbies like baking and knitting, we decided to brew our JFK2LAX2JFK base beer and build on the Citra and Simcoe hop schedule with Cashmere and Riwaka - the hop we’re most excited to be selecting while in New Zealand.

I was thinking of my man Raul when I had this one. Peace, kid. I still remember sitting across from Neil McCauley at a diner, circa 1995. He looked me in my eyes and said: "Don't let yourself get attached to anything you are not willing to walk out on in 30 seconds flat if you feel the heat around the corner." Well, brothers and sisters, this sucker is packing straight heat. Like too much. I can dig it, but when the natural fruity elements from the hops are muted by that intense alcohol burn, you can do better. We can all do better. Cheers to that.

CANNED 05/21/20, 'GROUNDED'.

A lightly pale golden hue, completely opaque and with about a finger's worth of soft white head that settles low and even around the body of the beer. The lacing is heavy but weak, falling lazily when the glass is tilted.

The nose is a little muted initially, but loads of tropical fruit are very apparent, balancing peach and sweet citrus. There's a touch of earthy resin as it continues to open up, but for the most part tropical fruit steals the show.

Much like its Other Half counterpart, the Cashmere and Riwaka hops really dominate on the palate. Packing that initial punch of earthy, piney resin, it settles with a bitter floral finish. In terms of fruit, grapefruit stood out along with lime, pineapple, and a touch of red berry on the tail. While it seemingly drinks green at first, as I continue to sip it really begins to come together beautifully.

The mouthfeel on this is unreal. A fairly low, soft carb perfectly compliments the pillowy softness of this beer and expertly veils that 10.2%. As it tails there's a bit of warmth from the ABV, but that's honestly the only indicator I got that this thing was rocking double digits.
