A blend of Imperial Stouts aged in Willett Rye Whiskey barrels for 38 and 43 months with Madagascar and Tahitian vanilla beans. We previously released this beer on draft (and growler fills!) in 2018 and this go around we bottled it. This blend aimed for a very hefty barrel-forward character from the long rest in rye whiskey barrels (double the time of the original batch) that we then balanced and rounded out with a big blend of Madagascar and Tahitian vanilla beans.

This is more full and soft on the palate than viscous. And, as it warms, the vanilla addition starts to dominate with a floral vanilla bitterness that interferes with the barrels IMO. And, again with some Monkish stouts, with this being aged 40+ months, there is a touch of oxidation on the backend. I admit that my palate is weird and over-sensitive to it, but unless something was wrong, I am not sure why it had to be aged so long. Decent...
