I guess I have to write the first review for this beer too on BA.
I managed to get a pour of this at Sierra Nevada's Single, Fresh, Wet & Wild Festival. Bell's brought Oarsman and Two Hearted besides this, so it was easy to choose the only beer from them I hadn't had (much less numerous times).
Pours black, 1/3" light brown head. I think the closest thing I've seen this kind of unnamed beer approach is the black hearted black ipa from Bell's. Pretty similar. Has a citrus and pine aroma, seems some dehusked barley was used at this isn't anywhere near as roasty in the nose as one might suspect from the color. Its not just C hop rind and pine, there is a different citrus vibe here. I'm totally taking a guess, but for 2013, the experimental hop here might be Meridian. Has a very light fruitiness to it, but even with suspected dehusked barley, there is still too much roast going on for getting much of a feel for an experimental hop.
