A gift from a fellow beer friend. 12 oz bottle vintage 2014 with a date of 11/2015. Poured into a wide mouthed glass. Poured as if it were melted brown sugar. Brown. Very cloudy. Almost no carbonation. Thick with some floaters. Nose comes across as a barrel aged ale with sweet molasses and raw sugar. The nose is a bit boozy. At 11% I guess that makes sense. First taste is explosive with heavy spicing and strong maple flavor. The maple carries throughout the experience. So many flavors-very complex. Creamy malt, maple, brown sugar, coriander, nutty, ginger, butter and allspice. Picking up the notes from a barrel aged beer. It must be the chestnut chips. Very interesting ale and certainly worth trying. An 8-10oz pour would be proper. It's a sipper.

Now this is a fun beer with a lot of fun flavors that work really well together. This has a very asian feel to it and it takes me back to some excellent flavors found on my trip to china. Pours a dark brown with hints of a brick red. The smell is "eccentric" for lack of a better word. Ginger, horseradish, molasses galore. The taste follows the nose. i feel like this would compliment sushi or some seared tuna. Could probably be a great marinade too. This is not a beer you could sit and drink a six pack of, but a nice sipper full of flavor. Really surprised I liked it as much as I did.

Pours rich red-brown. Little head. Aroma is slightly sweet & nutty. Get some sweet and malt on initial taste, then coriander and caraway come through. Ginger gets muddled with horseradish and juniper, providing a slightly off, somewhat bitter bite to the finish.

This beer poured a dark brown color into my Bell's snifter glass with a thin light tan head. The label says this ale is brewed with Juniper berries, Ginger, Caraway Seeds, Coriander, Maple Syrup, Molasses, Horseradish Root, and Chestnut Chips.
So to say the least the nose of this beer is complex. I find the Coriander, Molasses and Horseradish to be the most pronounced.
The taste does follow the nose but no real strong flavors that overpower you or the beer itself. I think I do feel a little bit of heat in the end from the horseradish. The flavors all are very nicely balanced. The mouth feel is smooth and has nice carbonation. In the end I'm glad I had he chance to try this beer. It really reminds me of some old ales or that style of beer. There is no ABV listed on the bottle but it does seem to have a slight alcohol burn.
