A vibrant sour session ale aged on blackberries. This "call of the void" variation was also fermented entirely in wooden foeders with a mixed wild culture, Brettanomyces, Bell's house ale yeast and Pediococcus, for about 12 months. It was aged on blackberries for two months. Blackberries were chosen to balance the bright tartness.

Bubbly clear dark ruby pour. Apple cider vinegar, blackberry pie, toasty oak, and playful funk nose. Taste has medicinal elements but stops short of being an issue, black berry jam, funk, toasty oak, dark malts and supporting dark fruit skins. Mouthfeel is tart, slightly funky, decently carbonated and has a vinegar tang, but all in an artfully delicate body.

750 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 1/14/2020. Pours slightly hazy deep ruby red light pink/orange color with a thin head with poor retention, that reduces to nothing pretty quickly. Zero lacing on the glass with a good amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big sour/tart/tangy blackberry, raspberry, fruit skin/seed, lemon, lime, peach, plum, pear, apricot, melon, green apple, red grape/wine, oak, peppercorn, hay, straw, grass, leather, peppercorn, musty/barnyard funk, light wheat/cracker, and yeast/oak earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of blackberries, fruity/funky/spicy yeast. oak, and light-moderate pale/wheat malt notes; with big strength. Taste of big sour/tart/tangy blackberry, raspberry, fruit skin/seed, lemon, lime, peach, plum, pear, apricot, melon, green apple, red grape/wine, oak, peppercorn, hay, straw, grass, leather, peppercorn, musty/barnyard funk, light wheat/cracker, and yeast/oak earthiness. Moderate fruity/lactic tartness, fruit tang, and Brett spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of tart/tangy blackberry, raspberry, fruit skin/seed, lemon, lime, peach, plum, pear, apricot, melon, green apple, red grape/wine, oak, peppercorn, hay, straw, grass, leather, peppercorn, musty/barnyard funk, light wheat/cracker, and yeast/oak earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Amazing complexity, robustness, and balance of blackberries, fruity/funky/spicy yeast. oak, and light-moderate pale/wheat malt flavors; with an amazing malt/tart/tangy/spiciness balance; and zero puckering/astringent flavors after the finish. Moderately crisp/clean finishing. Moderate increasing dryness from lingering tart/tangy/spiciness and carbonation. High carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth and moderately grainy/acidic/tangy/tannic balanced mouthfeel that is fantastic. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 4.8%. Overall this is an amazing fruited wildd ale! All around amazing complexity, robustness, and balance of blackberries, fruity/funky/spicy yeast. oak, and light-moderate pale/wheat malt flavors; very smooth, crisp, clean, and refreshing to drink with the moderately tart/tangy/spicy/drying finish; not overly lactic. Amazingly balanced juicy/vibrant fruit, Brett/Bacteria complexity, and oak foeder presence; with a solid pale/wheat malt backbone. Zero residual sweetness with crisp dryness. A highly enjoyable offering, and amazing spot on style example as expected of the brewery. Would even say it is real lambic quality at half the price.

Having this on-tap at the Tremont Taphouse the second day of the 10th annual Cleveland Beer Week at the Tremont Taphouse’s annual Bell’s Ruins Beer Week Tap takeover event. This beer draws a clear, dark amber red color with an off-white head that settles to a thick ring lining the inside of the glass along with some big cluster swirls of a film layer of surface foam. Aromas of some bready malts and wheat along with blackberry sour notes and a bit of barnyard funk. The taste is pretty much the same, with some bready malts and wheat that gives way to some blackberry notes along with some slightly vinegary and salty sour notes that’s rounded out with some barnyard funk. A very nice flavor profile here. Has a fairly crisp and prickly, yet very smooth, medium bodied mouthfeel with light to moderate carbonation. Has a very clean and dry finish and aftertaste.

Poured from howler to tulip glass. Color of grape juice, with a purple-tinged white head. Fruity and sour aromas emanate. Juicy blackberries take the stage, followed by a vinegary sour kick in the tonsils.
