Notes: The name “Larry’s Latest” is a nod to the spirit of innovation and experimentation that Larry started in 1985 and continues within the brewery to this day. Our latest Tart Fruit Ale is brewed with passionfruit and lime zest, resulting in a tart blend of tropical, citrus flavors and aromas.

Flamingo Fruit Fight
12oz. bottle ($8.99 sixer) pkg 01/10/2009 poured into a Chimay goblet

A- A sloppy pour creates 1-finger of bubbly, light khaki head that fizzes to a light film with ever-surfacing bubbles. The body is a very hazy, murky orange (in a pleasant way), like orange juice. Very little stick is left on the glass.

S- Fruity and funky for sure. It must be the passion fruit with a hint of lime (though I could be convinced it grapefruit or any variety of tropical melon and citrus). 5 Alive anyone? Is there nectarine?

T- Really nice. Sweet citrus qualities turn tart through the middle and into the finish. Even some lactic funk in there. Almost a tart peach/nectarine quality as it comes together.

M- Medium-light body with loads of carbonation. Puckering tartness lends to a very dry feel.

O- Fruity goodness without cloying sweetness. I'll call it a win. I hope it's around through the hot summer months as it seems wishful thinking as a snow day's already been called for tomorrow and temps might not break 0 later this week.

16 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 1/10/2019. Pours very hazy deep golden amber/light orange color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and rocky off white head with great retention, that reduces to small cap that lingers. Nice spotty foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big juicy/tart/tangy passion fruit, fruit skin, lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit, citrus zest, peach, pear, melon, berries, red/green apple, white grape/wine, hay, straw, grass, wheat, cracker, white bread, light pepper/lacto funk, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of passion fruit, lime, fruity/acidic yeast, and moderate pale/wheat malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big juicy/tart/tangy passion fruit, fruit skin, lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit, citrus zest, peach, pear, melon, berries, red/green apple, white grape/wine, hay, straw, grass, wheat, cracker, white bread, light pepper/lacto funk, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate fruity/lactic tart/sourness, fruit tang, and light spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of tart/sour passion fruit, fruit skin, lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit, citrus zest, peach, pear, melon, berries, red/green apple, white grape/wine, hay, straw, grass, wheat, cracker, white bread, light pepper/lacto funk, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of passion fruit, lime, fruity/acidic yeast, and moderate pale/wheat malt flavors; with a great malt/tartness and tangy fruit balance; with no puckering/astringent flavors after the finishing. Light-moderate increasing dryness from lingering tart/sourness and tangy fruit. Medium-plus carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/grainy/acidic/tangy, and fairly crisp/tannic balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 5%. Overall this is an excellent fruited kettle sour. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of passion fruit, lime, fruity/acidic yeast, and moderate pale/wheat malt flavors; very smooth and fairly crisp/refreshing to drink with the modestly acidic/tangy/tannic/drying finish, not overly lactic. Very flavorful and not watery for the ABV. Awesome balance of juicy/vibrant passion fruit, lime, and Lacto complexity; with a nice pale/wheat malt backbone against acidity for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering, and well made style example as expected of the brewery.

Larry’s Latest Flamingo Fruit Fight | Bell's Brewery - Eccentric Café & General Store. Bottled variant. Poured from the bottle into a snifter, this has a three finger thick head, solid lacing, and a very hazed, opaque medium gold body.

Smells not TOO tart; with the passionfruit's juiciness taking precedent. Lighter malts and floral hops pop up with a whiff, too.

There is a somewhat bold cracker malt base that I taste along with the lime, passionfruit, grapefruit, and your usual suspects for "tropical". Outrageously refreshing with a tad bit of the malt lingering post-swig.

Medium-light mouthfeel with mild carbonation.

I'll go ahead and rate Larry’s Latest Flamingo Fruit Fight | Bell's Brewery - Eccentric Café & General Store with an overall 4.5. Really hoping this is available in my area during the hot and hazy months vs the dead of winter.

Cane date: 1/29/19

Look: Hazy, murky golden brown. Two fingers of off white head. Tightly packed bubbles along the side. Medium sized soapy bubbles on top.

Smell: Zested lime, sea salt, tart, sweet tropical fruit. Passion fruit, kiwi, guava, pineapple, peach. The tartness blends well with the sweet fruity qualities, well the saltiness adds a savory mouth watering effect to the senses. The addition of passionfruit and lime are very noticeable on the nose. There’s a touch of skunky, mustiness that I’m picking up on as well. This really doesn’t deter from how pleasant this smells. Overall on the nose this beer smells great and has me really salivating over my first sip.

Taste: So upfront I’m picking up the tart qualities of this beer, with this tart lime juice note taking the lead. Along with that comes light sweet notes of tropical fruit. The tropical fruit notes become more pronounced as the beer washes across the middle of the tongue and become easier to individually identify. Transition into the middle of the tongue where I’m picking up on notes of passion fruit, guava, pineapple, kiwi, and peach. The downside is the tropical fruit flavor in the mid palette quickly fades to black and only sticks around long enough to capture a quick glimpse. As the tropical fruits finish there drive by my tongue is greeted by a dry cereal graininess and light skunky notes. This bridges the flavor and leads me to the finish. The finish is rather refreshing and light. There’s a saltiness that cleanses the palette well a mild tartness sticks to the sides of my tongue and makes me want to keep drinking the beer.

Feel: Light to medium body. A little bit on the watered down side. Extremely drinkable and refreshing. A great summer time session-able beer option. I could easily drink a 6 pack of this on a summer day or night.

Overall: I’m happy with this offering from Bells. For being such a mass produced beer, they do a pretty good job on this one. The beer isn’t going to knock your socks off and make you say wow or anything like that. Overall though I think bells captured what they were going for with this beer, that being a cheap go to summer beer option. I know this can won’t be my last, especially with the summer months ahead.

It's back! I always look forward to any "Larry's latest" these days, and this beer proves to me that this is a sure bet for a good drink. EXTREMELY fruity on this one, good notes of lemon and bubblegum with the passionfruit and just enough funk to mellow it all out. An explosion of bright sweetness with satisfying texture.

12oz canned 5-27-20, opened 6-27-20.
1/4" white head falls to a cap quickly.
Orange-golden fully opaque pour. No lace.
Lots of zesty lime in the nose. Weedy, grassy aroma beyond the big citrus fruit.
Lime, and tangy tropical fruit on a clean malt base. Tasty.
Full body, with a thick, smooth mouthfeel. Tangy, tart, zesty fruit-filled and dry finish.
Refreshing, flavorful, and great drinkability at 5% abv.
Very Good.

Pours a beautiful yellow/orange/mango color, minimal head, recedes quickly. Really nice lime zest pucker, nice passionfruit flavor coming through, nice and tart but not overpowering. Really nice mild carbonation, get a nice little bit of alcohol warmth on the finish. Great value, this should be a summer crusher for sure.

L - Minimal head if any at all, maybe 1/2 finger white head, no lacing left when the head disappated, light orangish look with slight haze.

S - Passionfruit undertone with an uninviting almost vomit like overtone.

T - Tart up front, with passion fruit underlying, a bit of salt off the bat as well.

F - Medium Light body, minimal carbonation.

O - For someone who loves tart beers I will not be returning to this one, it’s not an absolutely terrible beer, but some of the qualities of it are incredibly off putting. Would love to see Bell focus more of the Passionfruit in this and less or the tart, as the passionfruit is very hard to find when drinking!

Pours slightly cloudy, bright yellow in color with 1/4 inch head. Taste is big passionfruit, lime, and sour mix. Sour, high carbonation, and light bodied. One of the most passionfruit forward beers I have ever had. Delicious, fruity, but still plenty of beer taste. Could have quite a few.
