The pour is a dark garnet color and seems transparent. Beige foam makes up the head and lacing.
The flavor begins with plum and brown sugar, raisins and figs. Zero bitterness from the base barley wine. There is some brown bread malt flavor that follows the dark fruit and it’s all back together for the swallow.
The feel is lightly viscous, ideal for the style; a barley wine is meant to be sipped.
OA, I enjoyed this far more than I expected to, should have gotten a crowler to take home.

This pours a rich mahogany in color, just a deep dark caramel brown. The nose has all the 3rd Coast notes I have come to love and expect, with a light sweetness that comes across. The barrel notes aren’t so present as to distract from the main show here.

Third Coast Old Ale aged in port barrels. The port barrels give it an aroma of oak, figs, and plums. Taste is plum, graham cracker, moves to vanilla, then port and oak booze. Kind of grew on me.

Huge character from the port barrel, making this almost an entirely different beer from Third Coast. Wipes out much of the bitter hop character, replacing it with brown sugar, fruitcake, fig, chocolate, and oak.
