Gose style ale brewed with plum, salt and coriander.

The second of 7 beers celebrating a literary classic and one of our favorites, Leaves of Grass, by Walt Whitman. In homage to old-world agriculture, we’re pairing artisan heirloom grains with plum juice to create a tart flavor profile.

12 oz. bottle. Pours golden and lightly pink. Clear until the residue flowed in. The head is very brief, with the thinnest of collars remaining after just seconds. Smells of coriander and plums, mineral notes and wheat. Some earthiness. Tastes pleasantly tart with fruity plums up front. Nothing like the battery acid that I have come to expect from the gose style. Back end has some wheat, a bit of sweetness, coriander, and a tinge of salt. Medium light. Low carbonation, but still zippy and easily consumed. It's been a long time since I've had a gose this good. But it's Bell's, so why am I surprised?

Picked this up in the dead of winter and had to wait a few months until it warmed up for prime gose drinking time.

Darker than your average gose, could be the impact from the plum. Looks pretty much amber. Thin 1/4" off white head. Aroma was gose like, coriander, salty, neat plum tartness. Checks all the boxes for what they proclaim.

Taste is nice and handles the plums nicely. They don't contribute an appreciable degree of sweetness that would interfere with the hoped for brackishness that is almost requisite for style (it is in my book). One of those light bodied, dry beers that packs a good amount of flavortown. It truly gets better the more you drink it, and it was pretty good on the first sip. Its largely pretty traditional with a plum twist. This seems like a release better suited for summer though. And cans. What they put in here is dialed into pretty good proportions, its easy to get me to not like a beer for having too much coriander or plum, but here they're right where they should be.

Bottled 7/10/19...absolutely past freshness. Oh well

There’s always a ton of Bell’s on the shelves but I don’t always pick it up. This one was calling my name, I love plum and goses

Pours a cloudy orange amber with just a finger of white head that fades to nothing

More salt in the nose than in most of these, and I’m all for it. Other than some light plum and wheat there’s not much going on here

Light but juicy plum up front with a heavy dose of salt, eventually fading to a clean tartness with some earthy notes from the coriander

Light bodied with low carbonation, this is sadly a bit watery. Refreshing, but would be more so if it was more carbonated

This one was just ok, but obviously freshness was an issue. Not bad by any means, something light and tart, but nothing exceptional

A 12oz bottle with a bottled on date of 7.10.2019

L - Amber with little clarity, 1/2 a finger of head. Pretty brew

S - Pears, plums, grapes

T - Like the aroma, plums, grapes, and apples. Very tasty

F - Medium body and carbonation. Sizzles a touch on your tongue

O - An excellent tasting fruit gose. Well done Bells!

Pours murky, purple-gold in color with 1/4 inch head. Taste is huge plum, a great dose of salt, and coriander. Light bodied, juicy, salty, with medium high carbonation. Very very plum forward and I like it. Should have picked up more.

Poured into a grip shaped goblet: color is gold/copper, slight haze, head presents 1 finger thick and dissipates quickly to thin top/ring, no lacing.

Smell is sour, acidity, light fruit, hint of malt and plum fruit, mild saltiness. Not coriander or bread.

Taste is similar with light acidic, fruity notes, plum character is notable but not significant, light saltiness; malt character is mild with limited bread or toast like character.

Mouthfeel is crisp, moderate carbonation, lingering acidity, and light bite on the tongue.

Overall a good, solid gose with light plum character, missing just a hint of breadiness.
