Notes: The fifth of 7 beers celebrating a literary classic, and one of our favorites, Leaves of Grass, by Walt Whitman. A sipper that is nice and malty with notes of baked bread, brown sugar and dark fruit. A perfect winter companion to help keep you warm and toasty.

Poured out of a 12 oz. bottle into a my chalice/goblet glass, this beer pours a dark copper/amber color with some bright, yet deep ruby highlights when held up to the light. Has an off-white, slightly tan head that's about an inch thick when first poured that settles to a pretty thick lining the inside of the glass along with some nice cluster swirls of foam on the beer;s surface that eventually culminated into one pretty big cluster swirl that happened to be shaped like a tree. Aromas of bready, toasted caramel malt sweetness along with notes of brown sugar and some dark fruits. Has an extremely similar flavor profile, with ready, toasted caramel malt sweetness that gives way to some dark fruit notes of plum and raisin. This is followed with a touch of spice, some brown sugar, and just a slight earthy hop presence. I like that this is a more fruity and bready beer of this style that is lighter on the spices than a lot of other beers of this style. Kind of a unique approach that I feel works well here. Has a slightly crisp and prickly, also smooth and frothy, medium bodied mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. Easy to drink in a good way. Very nice here!

Bottled 1/10/20; drank 2/2/20 @ the Yarchives.

Cloudy dark purple appearance.

A violent pour yielded a HUGE khaki head; frothy lace.

Plum, mild juniper & faint brown sugar notes in the nose.

Medium mouthfeel.

Plum, caramel, mild juniper & faint fresh flower flavors.

Potent & interesting; perhaps a bit challenging for the style, but I'm into it.

Pours an effervescent chestnut with one finger if tan head. Below average head retention

S: Brown bread, a little figgyness once warm

T: Brown bread, grainy bitterness, & a little brown sugar up front. Faint fig notes, brown sugar & grainy bitterness as this warm, a kiss of booze as well. Finishes with Brown sugar sweetness, some grainy bitterness, just a little fig & raisin

MF: Medium body, fairly firm carbonation

Got better as this warmed, still has a little bit of a rough edge, hopefully aging helps

A - Deep ruby color with thick creamy off white colored lacing hanging on top with not going down. Carbonation is nice and steady and overall nice clarity with the beer.

S - Nice toasted caramel aroma and bread crust.

T - Toasted caramel sweetness, bread crust, baked bread, some dark fruit, and ends with a lingering piney bite with sweet toasted caramel malt base underneath.

M - Thick and silky.

O - A really enjoyable sipper on a cold night and better than the current score of (86).

The pour is murky brown in the snifter glass. The taste is malt, black cherries, prune, molasses, & spice. In addition to, the 8.5% abv is well hidden. Overall, not a bad winter warmer beer at all. Cheers! B

12oz bottled 01/10/2020 (26 days ago) poured into a tulip glass at just above fridge temp 8.5% ABV. The beer pours a hazy light brown with khaki colored head. The head recedes to a thin ring and leaves a little lacing. The aroma is malty, with baking spice and a hint of dark fruit. The taste is spicy sweet with brown sugary malt, spice and little bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium plus bodied with average carbonation and a mostly dry finish. The spice (& a touch of alcohol heat) provides the balance keeping the beer dry without being bitter. Overall, very good. I prefer a bit more malt and restrained spice personally, but this is very well crafted and quite delicious as a package.

Really loving the Leaves of Grass series. Poured this into a tulip. Beer pours a dark caramel, with two fingers of khaki colored head. Head settles to a ring. Plenty of lacing left on the glass.

Malt-centric on the nose. Plenty of brown bread notes hit first.A bit of dark fruit present as well. A bit of sweet fig is there as well. A light touch of warming spices come through as it warms up.

Much like the nose, the taste is malt forward. Toasted bread notes hit first. More brown bread notes as well. Light brown sugar and warming spices hit midway. Some dark fruit notes present as well. Fig notes become a bit stronger as it warms. The finish is drying with a lingering dark caramel quality.

The beer has a nice medium body, if a bit light. Plenty of carbonation.

Overall this is a tasty brew. It's not an over the top winter warmer. It hits pretty much all the things I expect in this style. It's a nice sipper to warm the bones on a cold winters night.

Bottled on 1/10/20. 12oz bottle poured into a tulip. Pours a murky amber/dark copper with ruby red hues; fluffy khaki head that falls leaving great retention and sticky lacing. The aromas are malt forward. Dark fruits come through along with some hints of cherry. There's a nice amount of caramel and cocoa as well. The flavors are nice. Lots of sticky caramel. More toffee. More dark fruits. Some raisins and cherries. Some brown sugar. Some orange, grapefruit and citrus in the mix. Low bitterness with a subtle sweetness. Nice strong malt backbone. Finishes with a subtle warmth, but it's not hot or boozy at all. Mouthfeel is full-bodied with moderate carbonation. It's slick, slightly spritzy, smooth and dangerously drinkable.

This is a nice "winter warmer". It's not super flashy, but it's not supposed to be. Nice sticky and warm flavors. It's really fitting for the colder weather. The craftsmanship is on point. It's very enjoyable and fun to drink. Well done. I really like it.
