The epic battle roy-ale concludes with our flamingos punching with pomegranates. This tart fruit ale goes straight for the taste buds, with a dry finish and fruity notes. It might take 6 rounds — or a 6 pack — to decide who's the champ.

A sweet metallic nose after the pour was golden. Taste was slightly sour and very fruity on the palate with strawberry overtones. I liked it a lot as it carried through with a ting, very similar to the other one I tried.

12oz bottle. Poured out a slightly cloudy, golden yellow color with a small, white head of foam. It left sudsy rings of lace on the glass. It smelled of pomegranate, sweet fruits, lemon and some caramel. Mild pomegranate taste with some tart lemon.

This one pours a dark orange color. Almost clear, but ever so slightly cloudy. Two finger, frothy white head forms on the beer. It dissipates rather quickly leaving behind no residual head. The aroma on this has notes of wheat, lemon, pomegranate, and some vanilla yogurt-like notes. Its definitely discernibly sour on the nose. Its actually a bit sweet on the nose too, we will see if that holds true of the taste.

Taste follows the nose with notes of wheat, lemon, a moderate to strong tartness with lighter notes of pomegranate and strawberries. Going off of memory alone this seems like the tartest of the bunch, but its still not over the top. The underlying wheat beer is strongly reminiscent of a Berliner Weisse with those tart wheat and light lemony notes. The finish leaves a light lingering tartness on the palate. The overall resulting impression is actually quite refreshing. Feel is light bodied, crisp and almost fleeting on the palate. Just tart enough to result in a light puckering. Dry finish. Bright carbonation.

This one is really nice. I thoroughly enjoyed it and the pomegranate goes so well with the tart base beer. This might be my favorite of the lineup.

The sour ale market is brutal. Competition remains fierce. The fight is real. Bell's brewery brings a holiday twist of pomegranate to this marketing war to give their flamingo a fighting chance. Laced with the the red berries, their sour ale series is primed to win another battle.

Their Pomegranate Flamingo Fruit Fight starts with a foggy buised mauve before teasing with a fizzy, frothy foam. A faint drift of wine, cider, red berry and musty sourdough passes the nose as its light and cottony froth builds upon the rim. A lightly sweet sip reveals a modest taste of taffy, sourdough and wafer.

The malts and fruit flavors round the middle palate like wine spritzer and cider with those underlying green apple, lemon, lime and gooseberry character. But the pomegranate stands bolder and keeps the focus on a red berry taste that boarders on cranberry, currant, raspberry and plum. Trending playfully acidic, the beer is pleasant in taste while balancing with a spicy sourness late on the palate.

Medium light in body, the slightly more robust nature of pomegranate seems to keep the beer more rounded and less dry. Simplified in its taste and texture, the beer finishes brisk and off-clean as its somewhat a tepid sour ale with a noticeable pectin bite. This flamingo is relying on agility more than punch.

October 2021 Flamingo Fruit Fight Release - 6 pack
12 oz. bottle dated 10/20/2021 - 4.50% ABV / 10 IBU
Brewed and bottled in Comstock, MI
Poured into a Bell's branded nonic pint glass

Look - Pours a thin and quickly dissolving white head. Hazy, pale orange to pink appearance with lots of floating sediment.
Smell - Has a very bready scent with lots of yeast. Some subtle fruit notes as well.
Taste - The initial taste is tart pomegranate with a subtle malty aftertaste. Zero bitterness.
Feel - Medium bodied with a crisp and sharp mouthfeel. Not very drying and easy to drink.
Overall - Nice pomegranate tartness that isn't overwhelming making this very smooth and crushable.

A mild slightly sour beer with a slight cherry like taste and a tart aftertaste. They call it a session sour which I guess means it has an OK feel but not much smell or taste. I've enjoyed others in this series a lot but this one is pretty meh.

Still a total Bell's Brewery fan and if they're in a business alliance with New Belgium that's a great company to go with, another quality brewery.

Just got to put up a negative review now and then if something is off. The Raspberry fruit fight wasn't so great either, I hope it's not a trend.
