When right out of the fridge I experienced a scorched taste in the background that didn't seem like it was from the dark malt. However, it went away as the beer warmed and a baking spice flavor showed up which wasn't the best of flavors. (Ginger may have been one of those spice tastes, and it's not a favorite of mine.) This seems to be just an average beer.

The pour is stout black with a thin beige head that left spots of lacing.
The taste belies the “pastry” moniker, there is little sweetness in this. Coffee and cacao, toasted dark bread and some grilled figs.
The feel is lighter than expected, I expected a lactose smoothness but didn’t discern any.
OA, certainly not a bad beer, just couldn’t find the cookie.
