Very dark brown with a thin beige head. Smells of cherries, oxidized fruit and a bit of chocolate. Tastes like caramelized cherries, coffee, cocoa, dark chocolate, roasted malts and chocolate. Smooth texture with a bitter-sweet (mostly sweet) sherry aftertaste.

15cl pour for 2 euro @ Chinaski Lavapies in Madrid. On-draught (obviously). Brief impressions below:

Chocolate/chocolate malt, cream, buried roast...and that's about it.

Well rounded with a nice smooth, wet texture. Full bodied enough. Well carbonated. Doesn't accentuate specific notes from the flavour profile or elevate the beer as a whole.

A drinkable enjoyable imperial porter from the brewery many regard as Spain's best, but far from world class. I wouldn't go for a second purchase, but it's worthwhile to try once.

C+ (3.13) / ABOVE AVERAGE

From elcervecero. In Teku glass. Reading CPPHTP10 Ch17. Much better than their normal porter. Have left anxious for tasting tomorrow their newest imperial porter "Iruña & Mordor". Avg 4.36.

16 Apr 2017. New label. From tercertiempocervezas. In Teku glass. Playing 12 Labours of Hercules 1 & 2. Bitter roastyness with some coffelike notes. Addictive. Although at first doesnt seem so good, the more you drink of it the more you like it

Got this one from the Duvel guy down the road.

From a bottle into as snifter
Best before April 2016
Cocoa and coffee imperial porter

APPEARANCE: A clear black pour yields a three finger, medium looking, creamy, tan head with good retention. Black body with no carbonation evident. Head slowly fades to a full wisp and sticks to the sides of the glass. A faint splotchy wisp remains leaving dots of lacing down the glass. Looks good.

SMELL: Some roasted notes, black malts and some stale black coffee. Kind of simple, but it's there. No real cacao here.

TASTE: Some burnt malts and black coffee up front. More coffee at the swallow, then a bolder and lingering finish of burnt malt, bitter, black coffee, a bit of milk chocolate and lots of roasted and burnt flavors. A little one dimensional and very burnt and roasted, but enjoyable enough.

PALATE: Medium body and medium levels of carbonation. A little prickly on the palate, goes down fine and finishes a bit sticky. Not quite creamy enough, but alright.

OVERALL: This is okay, but nothing out of the ordinary. Coffee is there but doesn't really leave a lasting impression while the cacao isn't really noticeable. It's a little one dimensional in its burnt qualities and somewhat overly bitter, but there's enough to enjoy here besides that. A decent brew.

On-tap. Pint glass @ BierCab (Barceloan). Pours deep black headed by beige, close, small bubbled froth. Lasting crown as a thin layer on top. Some spots. Intense roasted –not burnt- cocoa & coffee aromas. Enters creamy with slightly floral bitter flavor. Overwhelming coffee grains arise. Full body. Moderate carbonation. Oily texture & velvet palate. Roasted & dried sensation, earthy & licorice flavors, nutty hues. ABV is felt as a harsh warming touch into the long finish. Bitter chocolate rounds the aftertaste. Delicious !!
