Brief impressions at a bar in Madrid. 2 euro / 15 cl (on-draught).
Marshmallow, oxidation, caramel malts, maybe toffee, booze. Also, some capsaicin preservative juice (spicy vinegar, I guess? Possibly just acetic acid?).
Oddly slick and smooth, never sinking in to the palate. Poor depth of flavour as a result. Full-bodied, warm, well-carbonated, unrefreshing.
There's no natural harmony of texture and taste here.
It's a passable barleywine, but leaves much to be desired. I wouldn't buy it again, and it lacks the complexity and depth of flavour boasted by the finest expressions of the style.
