On tap at Sawmill Tap Room on 3/2/12.
Pours a dark orange with a thin layer of creamy, white head that has decent retention. The nose is lightly grassy and mildly musty. The flavor is lightly bready and bitter with notes of earthy, citrusy hops. The hop character is surprisingly citrusy for the style with grapefruit notes. The alcohol is noticeable but doesn't detract from the flavor. The mouthfeel is warm, smooth, and lightly carbonated with an overall medium bodied.
This is unusual for the style. It's intensely citrusy, very hoppy, and largely malty. In some respects it's similar to an IPA, but there are some characteristics of a pilsner. This is a limited release so I probably won't have the chance to try it again, but it was enjoyable though, in my opinion, not to style.
