N: Sweet, smokey beech wood dominates.
B: Like a hoppy rauchbier, with the rye malt creating quite a spicy intensity initially, only to be overtaken by the sweet smoked beech.

A 500ml bottle with a BB of Dec 2014, so it's a bit out of date. Purchased a while back from Trembling Madness in York. The label doesn't give too much away - beech smoke and rye....

A: Poured into a Duvel tulip. Bottle conditioned. A rich, hazy reddish-amber hue with medium carbonation and plenty of floating sediment. Yields a large head of creamy white foam that lasts for a few minutes before reducing to a patchy surface layer.

S: Aroma of smoky caramel malt with hints of beech smoke, sweet caramel, spicy rye, grain, subtle barley sugar, faint wood and yeast esters. Wonderfully balanced - very nice.

T: Tastes of smoky caramel malt with a sweet character and a lingering finish. Notes of beech smoke, caramel, grain, rye, mild barley sugar, earthiness, subtle spice, yeast esters and faint stewed leaves. Quite sweet, followed by a delicate, leafy bitterness upon swallowing.

M: Mouthfeel is smooth and tingly with pleasant carbonation and good body. Slightly astringent, accompanied by an aftertaste of smoky malt, caramel and subtle yeast.

O: Very nice - an impressive take on a rauchbier. Almost as good as Schlenkerla. Looks the part, while the aroma and flavour are seriously smokey and replete with notes of caramel malt, rye and mild yeast esters. Body is alright; could perhaps be a shade thicker. The smoked malt and sweet caramel complement each other perfectly. Goes down a treat - ideal for those in search of a smoke fix.
