Appearance: dark brown in color with a short 1/2" head.

Smell: loads of malt and dark fruit sweetness are picked up by the nose.

Taste: big malt profile here. Dark fruits, mild bitterness, and a soft alcohol finish creates a well balanced beer.

Mouthfeel: smooth throughout. Long lasting aftertate here.

Overall: a slow sipping beer that is full bodied and flavorful.

On tap at Brauhaus Schmitz.

Served in a 0.3 liter pokal. Clear, but deep and dark, mahogany color, with a half inch of beige head that retained pretty much to the last drop, coating the glass with a nice lace. Lots of caramel maltiness in the nose, and not much else. More of the same in the taste, caramel sweetness, lightly roasty, brown sugar, some raisin-like astringency, dry molasses finish. Medium body, went down easy and smooth, low-moderate carbonation. A nice doppelbock overall.
