Stopped in for dinner at the Clyde Iron Works on a visit to Duluth, & the food was hard-on excellent. The beer? Well, let's talk about that. Queried the waitress & found out that the beer is being contract-brewed at Lake Superior Brewing. It was surrounded by good-sounding regular beers but what the hell.
Arrives at the table in style, a brown with a bastard amber in its ancestry. Smell is most closely related to water; spare malts, flicks of sweetness, not much else.
Clyde Ale seems to have been brewed to be a mass-pleasing house beer. Taste is quiet & muted. Sweet malts, moderate nuttiness, few dust motes of hops lost in the liquid.
Easy to sip, easy to drink, but really not much to it. Decent enough; here's to hoping that Clyde Iron Works decides to brew and/or contract brew some beer as good as its food & service.
