Calling all beer lovers to the post, West Sixth Brewing kicks off the derby season with an easy pale ale that showcases the uniqueness of Nelson Sauvin hops to utter perfection.
Its short malt sweetness graces the tongue with mild biscuit and marmalade while more obvious caramel and honey aromas waft about. Delicate and playful, its lively effervescence pulls from the mouth for a crisp and clean upstart.
Gliding across the middle palate, the hop nuances layer upon with the citrus peels of white grapefruit and orange. Balanced to near perfection, the malt sweetness relaxes and the hop flavors grow to an even keel offset.
Its crisp malt body dissolves late to allow the taste to tilt toward the hops. Its citrusy tone develops into a grassy bitterness with a peppery and sprucy character. Juniper and gin-like spice finish off the taste with a certain dry tone.
The lightly hazed, but golden ale is effortless on the palate while carrying less intensity, particularly on the malt front, than the average American pale ale- perfect for those lazy Saturday evenings with the ponies stealing our hearts.
