Aroma is fairly subtle, with fully toasted, nutty, and slightly fruity specialty malt character accompanied by light floral hops.

Flavor is much more fruity than expected, almost kool-aid-like. There's some estery banana character in the finish. What toasted malt character is there is nice.

Think fermentation temperatures may have been too high for this one. Alcohol heat is overwhelming, as well.

With the cooling weather begging for meatier, maltier, richer beer- the usual spring seasonal dopplebock seems more synonymous with the flavor of fall rather than that of Easter.

And the West Sixth brewers believe the same, offering up a dark mahogany lager with near bright clarity and casting a tarnish lather of tan. With hearty caramel, toffee and molasses washing over the senses, its dense and bready sweetness is rounded on the initial palate like spice cake.

With the seared malt sweetness holding firm, the creamy and cakey body promotes a lavish and toasty middle. Light and savory melanoidin play softly in the background and gives the sweetness a crusted and lightly nutty balance. With soft hops playing a spicy tone in the recesses, the lager remains hop-sided heading into finish.

The rise of brandy-type alcohol warmth brings a dark fruit character that promotes a complex finish. As the heat, hop spice and carbonation break up the malty structure, the beer offers slim drinking quality even though is much more reserved for slow and sipping engagements.
