Ringing in the Breeder's Cup, the partnership between the horse racing community and the West Sixth Brewery is shared by this well crafted English-style milk stout. One that celebrates a dark and roasty character with remarkable drinkability and refinement.
Nearly pitch black, the dark beer's austere is stately and robust, capped with a delicate and creamy espresso-like froth. As dark coffee, cocoa and burnt toffee rolls over the senses, its taste is toasty, malty and charmingly sweet.
As the stout penetrates the tastebuds, its seared-in sweetness is of mild toffee and molasses, while being propped up with a hearty dosing of whipping cream for a gentle nougat-like taste and texture. French press coffee, bitter baker's chocolate, roasting walnuts and burnt toast round out the final impressions in taste with a bark-like, rootish bitterness that disguises cleverly as coffee.
Its finish is dry and malty with a mild roast-derived tannic bite. Medium-full in its body, the robust tasting ale is juxtoposed by a surprisingly drinkable texture. Its dryness leaves the palate wanting more in the way of body, complexity and robustness as the end to one pint begs for another.
