Just because we grow into beer consumption age doesn't mean that our tastebuds have to. That hankering for sweet and sour candies now manifest in beer form and allows us to hang out at the craft beer bar instead of stalking the candy aisle. West Sixth Brewing Company has got our backs!
Sixfold VIII pours with a luscious and hazy mauve. Building a creamy white lather, the ale rounds the nose with sour dark berry, cider, wine and citrus. Hitting the tongue with juicy berry flavors a melange of cranberry, cherry, raspberry and apple is lead by succulent blackberry.
And as the ale stews on the middle palate, its sweetness drifts quickly and the sourness tightens the jaws. Dry apple cider, white wine, lemon, lime and sour white grape tease the tastebuds with peppery sourness that's clean, crisp and radiant. Remnants of berry skins wrap around the tongue for a tannic and peppery late palate and a faint woodsiness of balsa.
Light and highly drinkable, the beer's feathery feel renders it a touch on the watery side as the sourness only reaches a moderate tone. Hints of sweetness remain along with a faint echo of pastry and pepper.
