Teaming up with the local urban gardener of Michler's Florist, the urban Oasis of Kentucky Native opens with a bright and summery taste of German wheat beer. Tangy, citrusy and bready, the West Sixth Brewery brings this traditional hefeweizen to their unique and warm weathered menu.
Cloudy golden and expansive with a creamy, pillowy froth, Michlerweisse draws in the nose with a rounded scent of tropical fruit, citrus, melon, soft spice and a rich doughy scent. Sweet on the palate, a bready taste of cookie dough rises with the tart tendencies of sourdough. Cream and confectionary, the early palate is gentle and lush.
As the sweetness and breadiness relaxes slightly on the middle palate, the strong estery tone takes hold. Banana, lemon, apple and cantaloup all mingle on the tastebuds and precede a spicy followup of white pepper, clove, bubblegum and mint. Fruit flavors take the lead in balance even as a late palate of minty hops add a peppery, grassy assist to offset both sweetness and esters.
Medium bodied and lush on the palate like dough and vegemite, the brisk fruit tartness seem to lighten the body as the carbonation carries away the bulk of textures. Its an easy ale that hosts many understated complexities, right down to a medium fast finish of vanilla and mint.
