If it's Thursday then its firkin beer! That's how West Sixth rolls into the weekend, getting us geared up with a peanut butter infused porter that veers slight from their typical dark beer ways.
Starting with robust malt aromas, the toasty, nearly roasty, nutty and chocolaty tone of their simply named, Peanut Butter Porter, resonates on the nose with the slightly burnt scent of peanut, cream and dark chocolate chocolate that hugs the caramel malts tightly. Early sweetness of caramel, toffee and toast frame a more charred taste of peanut buttercups.
The robust and roasty beer then leans toward bittersweet chocolate, slightly burnt toast, roasted walnut while shying away from the sugary sweetness that the early palate suggested. Trendig cocoa and coffee heavy, the peanut character seems of fresh roasted peanuts in an all grown up sense of closure. Coffee-like, cocoa and vanilla round the session along with enough of a bitter backbone to remind us of the beer's bitter hop bite for balance.
Medium full on the palate, the beer's modest, cask carbonation allows for the full appreciation of malt flavor to seep deeply into the tastebuds; allowing the beer to reach after dinner digestive proportions. Never cloying, the beer's toasty dryness, mild alcohol and bitter edges allow for a welcomed sense of drinkability.
