Trekking through the dog days of summer can be a long and lonely experience. But its less of both of those things with West Sixth's tropical accented sour ale. Those final days of summer now has a companion and gives us a reason to enjoy the heat.
Tropical Sour pours with a pale straw color and a cloudy translucence is depth. As a creamy short froth floats the surface, a tantalizing perfume of tropical fruit, bread and cereal radiate onto the nose. A gentle sweetness of sourdough, agave, cereal and honeysuckle splash the early palate with a moderately malty tone.
But as the ale washes the middle palate, its brisk fruitiness comes alive with the succulent nature of tropical fruit and all that guava and passionfruit whimsy. With flavors that are redolent with of tropical fruit punch, white wine, cider, lime and lemon, a nearly sherbet-like taste rises to the forefront. Low on bitterness, the sour ale extends onto the back of the throat with an acute acidity that washes the thirst like sangria.
Medium light in body, the beer's finish is short, brisk and clean, leaving only tracks of sourdough and tropical fruit peels late on the palate. Its a pleasant refreshing course sure to beat the heat.
