Striking a balance where passion meets pot, West Sixth celebrates the Strata hop in all its glory. It being the only hop used in this IPA really showcases the best that this hop variety has to offer.
Bubbly and golden upon its pour, the lightly haze ale caps off with a soft white crown and then a billowing scent of tropical fruity, citrus, tea, herb, and peppery grasses with a first tingle of the nose. As its flavors ensue, a foundation of caramel, honey and light toast suggest something of granola ahead of a flavor splash of passionfruit backed with white grapefruit, white grape, starfruit, under ripened mango and orange with a nearly lime-like tanginess. A quick followup comes with a bitter kick of green tea, sassafras, lemongrass, verbena, hemp and spruce.
Medium bodied and trending dry, the bitter leaning beer leaves a crisp, refreshing and off-clean flavor lingering behind. Strata hops is a very nice hop, but it can't really carry the whole hoppy load all by itself. Its best paired with one or two other varieties as its single hop character leaves it lacking complexity and depth.
