Partly modern and partly classic, West Sixth brewers show some discipline in their anniversary ale that's simply a ramped up version of their original flagship IPA.
Hazy amber in color, their Dry-Hopped Anniversary Edition floats a creamy eggshell froth and casts a juicy, citrus, caramelized perfume immediately upon the pour. As it sweeter malts set a foundation of caramel, toast and granola, the session quickly turns toward the hops and their radiant orange, pink grapefruit, pineapple and light mango fruitiness. Trending bitter and drying, the malt provides continued support even as the session closes with a gripping resinous taste equipped with peppery pine, citrus peel and herbal grasses.
Medium bodied and a juicy throwback to when IPA had bitterness and balance, this session reminded me of a fuller flavored and fuller bodied version of Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale.
