As an update to the defunct India pale lager, West Sixth revises the recipe and introduces their cold IPA- a crisp lager-like hop bomb.
Pouring a bubbly golden appearance, the finely hazy Hop Static Ch. 13 races to the brim with a cottony white froth. As the hoppy scent of tropical fruit, citrus, spruce and herb greets the nose, its first sip reveals a brisk and wafer-like sweetness with hints of honey and cracker. But the hops shine on the middle palate with a dry fruit character of white grapefruit, orange peel, passionfruit, kiwi, yuzu and white grape. Tightening its grip on the finish, bitterness ushers in with green tea, verbena, spruce tip, citrus peel and grassy herb.
Light, dry and refreshing, the ale is so crisp that it reveals a minerally carabonic bite and light vegetal astringency that's noticible but not all that distracting.
